Website Graphic Considerations

These include your company logo, website colour scheme and images of your products and services.

Search engines love text and currently care little about the visual content of a web page.

A text only web page does have virtues for some specialist and academic subjects but would have less appeal for most visitors.

Correctly pitched, web page graphics and images can certainly enhance a web page, provide visitor interest and promote sales.

When designing your website, your graphic involvement falls into the following main areas:

Bullet Your company Logo.

Bullet The colour scheme of your website.

Bullet Photos, images or graphics of your products and services.

Your Company Logo

Ideally, we will need good quality artwork of your company logo which will be used in the masthead of each of your web pages.

Corporate colours
We should also have an accurate representation of the corporate colours that you would like for your website.

If you do not currently have a company logo, or colour scheme, we can work with you to create one.

Website Template

To create a consistent feel throughout your website, every page will use the same website template. The template is designed specifically for your website and provides all of the common features that appear on each page, such as:

Bullet Colour scheme.

Bullet Layout.

Bullet Company logo and any other recurring corporate themes.

Bullet Navigation links.

Bullet Copyright and other informative information at the page footer.

You may have specific ideas on how you would like your website to look. Alternatively, if you're looking for inspiration, look for examples of web pages and features that you like on the internet. It can also be fruitful to have a look at your competitor websites.

Bookmark the examples that you like into a folder such as 'Website Ideas' so that you can refer to them later.

Once you have discovered examples of the web pages, or parts, that you like, just let us know and we will use that as a starting point. You can provide this information on the submission form that we will provide you.

Once we have your ideas and examples, we will start work on your draft website template as a basis for discussion and refinement.

Photos of Your Products and Services

We will need images of the products and services that you wish to promote and sell online. If you do not have professional images, you can take these yourself with a digital camera, or scan existing images, and download them to us.

If you provide a service, such as landscaping, 'before' and 'after' images can be very helpful.

Image Quality
We prefer to have lots of images from which we can select the best. Ideally, good quality images are best since we normally reduce their file size to help towards fast loading web pages. If the image quality is not perfect we can usually improve them.

Image Description
It is helpful if you can provide us with a description of the images, ideally a keyword description. We use this information in the code, known as 'Alt text' to describe each image in your website. This information helps text readers and users that have their browsers set to disable images. Search engines will see the image keyword description which helps toward the relevancy of your web page in the search engine results.

Image Selection
We select images for their quality and that help to describe and sell your products and services. The images are refined, where necessary, and their physical size adapted to the layout and their position on your web page. The images are then converted to either GIF or JPEG formats and their file size reduced so prevent slow loading pages.

Less is More
Every image used on your web site must earn its keep. Too many images will result in slower loading web pages and visual overload leading to visitor frustration.

While images and graphics can create visitor interest and sales, it is the text content that will cause visitors to return. When it comes to web page images and graphics, we find that less is more and text is king.
